Right or wrong? You decide. independent.co.uk on Sunday, March 2. 2025 ran this headline, “8th grader who sat for Pledge of Allegiance told she should ‘go back to your country’ by teacher.”
An 8th grader who refused to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance says she was told she should “go back to your country” by a teacher.
Danielle Khalaf, 14, a student at East Middle School in Plymouth, Michigan, said that she did not want to stand on January 10 because of “what’s happening in Palestine.”
“After the Pledge was over the teacher addressed the class and said that anyone that was sitting down was being very disrespectful to soldiers, to America,” Khalaf told 7 News Detroit.
The teenager said that she went to speak to her teacher after class to explain her reasons but claims she was told: “Since you live in this country and enjoy its freedom, if you don’t like it, you should go back to [your] country.”
“As a father, it was heartbreaking to see my daughter come home in tears because of what she had to deal with in school,” her father said.
“Danielle was exercising her constitutional right when she chose to remain seated during the Pledge of Allegiance. Instead of respecting her decision, the teacher humiliated her in front of her classmates and peers.
“And made a deeply offensive comment, essentially telling my daughter that she does not belong to this country. My daughter, an American citizen, being told she does not belong to this country.”
“Is it offensive if you go to someone else’s home and they tell you to take your shoes off before you enter?” said Thomas Robb, the National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, centrally based in Harrison, Arkansas, with members blanketing nearly all of America. “The is why Birthright Citizenship needs to end. In this situation, I stand behind the teacher. If my wife and I would have moved to a Muslim country when we were younger, and had a child in that country, do you think the Muslims would call our child a citizen? Better yet, a Christian citizen? The teacher isn’t at fault here, the parents are. I’m a parent, when my children were younger, or if my wife and didn’t have a child yet, as parents, who in their right mind would uproot from their native country, and move to a Muslim country, a country that hates Christians, and expect those native muslims to treat us, or our children as natives, being Christian? I’m a firm believer that if you don’t like how White Christians live, don’t come here, if you’re already here, and you don’t like it, please feel free to go back to your county of origin where your children will be treated as an equal. Any idiot would know that sooner or later, their child was going to run into a situation like this one. This doesn’t just pertain to Muslims either, this is for all non-whites in America.”
