A grand jury has declined to indict an East Nashville Walgreens clerk who shot a pregnant shoplifting suspect this year, but the woman has been indicted for theft and assault for allegedly spraying the clerk with mace, officials confirmed Wednesday.
The 24-year-old woman was seven months pregnant when she was shot multiple times in April in a confrontation in a Walgreens parking lot with the 22-year-old employee.
The clerk told police that he had confronted two women in the parking lot for allegedly stealing items from the store when one of the women sprayed him with a can of mace. He said he pulled out his semi-automatic handgun and fired multiple times in self defense.
The woman was rushed to a hospital where she gave birth via an emergency C-Section. The baby was not injured and at the time was in critical but stable condition, police said.
The Davidson County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed an aggravated assault charge against the clerk for the shooting, and misdemeanor charges for assault and theft of $1,000 or less against the woman.
“Being pregnant isn’t an excuse to get away with crime. The race card didn’t work in this situation either”, said Thomas Robb, the National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, centrally based in Harrison, Arkansas. “Welcome to equaliy! If this would have been a White woman in this scenerio, she surely would have been charged with a crime, so it’s only fair that this black woman was charged. That’s the problem in America, everyone talks about the rise in crime, but they don’t consider the facts. Blacks are 13% of our population, and they commit over 50% of our crime. There isn’t a rise in crime. What it is, is that not all races are held accountable for their behaviors. Since George Floyd overdosed under the knee of a White police officer, and it was called murder, blacks are no longer held accountable. That’s why it looks like a rise in crime. Imagine if Abraham Lincoln would have gotten his way when he freed the slaves. Lincoln wanted them sent back to Africa. Just think, if that would have happened, right now in America, we would have over 50% less crime”.
