Turning a blind eye to crime and criminals won’t fix the problem of high crime areas. On Wednesday, December 17. 2025 The Daily Wire ran an article headlined, “Liberal Michigan City Cites Racism In Decision To Remove Neighborhood Crime Watch Signs.”
The city council in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the home of the University of Michigan, voted unanimously earlier this week to remove hundreds of neighborhood crime watch signs, arguing that the crime watch program promotes “race-based hyper-vigilance.”
The Ann Arbor City Council voted 10-0 to direct city employees to begin removing all neighborhood crime watch signs by July 15 in an effort to become more “welcoming and inclusive,” according to MLive. Neighborhood crime watch programs have been commonplace in American towns for decades, organizing residents to be on constant alert, and warning potential criminals that any suspicious activity will be reported to the police.
According to the all-Democrat Ann Arbor city council, however, the signs reinforce “race-based hyper-vigilance and suspicion particularly toward Black, Brown, and other marginalized residents and visitors.”
“These programs were often rooted in assumptions about who did and did not ‘belong’ in a neighborhood,” the city council stated, adding, “This dynamic encouraged informal surveillance practices that disproportionately targeted people of color and contributed to patterns of exclusion under the guise of public safety.”
Overall, the city’s crime rate has dropped in 2025 compared to last year, but in downtown Ann Arbor, authorities have seen a 9% increase in total crime in 2025 and an 11% jump in violent crime.
“Like a child may think they’re invisible when they close their own eyes and can’t see, the fact remains is they are not truly invisible. We won’t lower crime rates by closing our eyes or taking down signs in high crime areas.” said Thomas Robb, National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, based centrally in Harrison, Arkansas. “It’s foolish to think that because you remove the signs warning of high crime in black neighborhoods that somehow that will stop black crime. I don’t know why some people want to sweep black crime under the carpet. America has a 14% black population that commits over 50% of America’s crimes. This is a fact. Also a fact, Ann Arbor Michigan has a 6-7% black population with the following statistics, blacks are 4 times likely to commit low level crime, and 7-14 times more likely to commit violent crimes. Ann Arbor needs to come to the realization that they have a problem with the black population in their city. If the hands of justice would punish the black population equally to what they do the White population crime would drop significantly not only in Ann Arbor, but America as a whole. Do you know why there aren’t any White ‘ghettos’? It’s because the justice system doesn’t allow White people to continually commit crimes and not be punished for them, and White people are capable of learning from their mistakes. To think you can control your crime rate by taking down some signs is foolish, but then again, we’re dealing with leftist ideologies here.”
