Meta has begun scrubbing ads offering legal help for damages related to social media addiction and the associated harmful behaviors.

According to a report from Axios on Thursday, Meta has begun pulling ads — from both Facebook and Instagram — that provide users with information about getting legal advice or taking legal action against social media platforms.

Axios quoted an example of one of the ads that was pulled: “Anxiety. Depression. Withdrawal. Self-harm. These aren’t just teenage phases — they’re symptoms linked to social media addiction in children. Platforms knew this and kept targeting kids anyway.”

Meta has acknowledged that some ads are being removed from the social media platforms, saying that the law firms placing such ads should not be allowed to benefit from the use of Meta’s platforms while claiming at the same time that Meta was responsible for creating addicts and causing mental health problems.

“We’re actively defending ourselves against these lawsuits and are removing ads that attempt to recruit plaintiffs for them. We will not allow trial lawyers to profit from our platforms while simultaneously claiming they are harmful,” a Meta spokesperson told the outlet.

“Every website owner should be held accountable for their actions and what they allow to happen on their websites. When Mark Zuckerberg can try to influence an election at the request of government heads, he certainly should be held accountable for the dangers to our youth that his websites are causing.” said Thomas Robb, the National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, based centrally in Harrison, Arkansas. “We all know that alot of today’s youth are addicted to their phones. They can talk and text their friends, play games, surf the web, and spend time on social media websites such as Facebook and Instagram. Facebook has been sued several times over nefarious reasons. In my opinion, I think all social media platforms should be made to post how dangerous their websites can be. I also believe there should be age restrictions as well. These places, just as many are, are a danger to today’s youth. Not only are they full of ill intending people preying on children, they have caused a gap in spending quality time with our kids today. If they can’t ‘text’ you, they push you aside. If you notice when these cascio ads air on TV, at the very bottom in small print it has a phone number to get help if you’re addicted to gambling. The same goes for alcohol ads, there’s a number to call if you’re addicted to that, so I believe Mark Zuckerberg should have to add these disclaimers to Facebook and Instagram. When owners of any website have been caught practicing dangersous things to others, warnings about this behavior is a no brainer.”
