On Tuesday, September 1st, ABC News ran the headline, “Civil rights advocates shocked after governor signed new protest law.”
Tennessee now leads the nation in criminalizing common protest tactics, with penalties including the denial of voting rights for pitching a tent on the Capitol grounds. But outrage over racial injustice isn’t going away, and civil rights advocates say the law was pulled from an age-old playbook that hasn’t stood up to history.
The National Director of the Knights Party, based in Harrison Arkansas, Thomas Robb said, “What’s so wrong with following local laws during a ‘peaceful’ protest? The Knights Party, in the past has held and attended many protests and rallies without problems. These civil rights leaders and activists just want a free pass to continue destroying our White built American cities.”
