As conservatives continue to push for free speech for all, members of the left are hopeful the federal government will step in. On Tuesday, a columnist for the New York Times suggested that Joe Biden construct a cross-agency taskforce to regulate the spread of ideas online.
The article went through a list of experts who supported the idea. Some of them even called for a so-called “Truth Commission,” which is a name many online compared to George Orwell’s “Ministry of Truth” in the novel “1984.”
The National Director of the Knights Party, based in Harrison Arkansas, Thomas Robb said, “You’ve been hearing alot about the book ‘1984’ written by George Orwell lately.The book was first published in 1949, and I suggest everyone read it. You can come to your own conclusion about it, but it is eeriely relevant to what we’re seeing in today’s times. As far as free speech for all? We should have it. White, black, tan, yellow, red, it shouldn’t matter your color. Free speech should include ‘hate speech’ as well, so long as it isn’t invoking violence. Even what is concidered racial slurs. If you don’t like what you hear, don’t listen. Personally, it doesn’t bother me a bit to be called a ‘Honky’, ‘Cracker’, or the newest one, a ‘Ken’. Racial slurs only anger the ones that the shoe fits. so yes, free speech for all is the purpose of our First Amendment.”
