A California state court sided with a baker Friday in Kern County who declined to bake a cake for a lesbian wedding, after lawyers for the state questioned the sincerity of the baker’s Christian faith.
Cathy Miller, a cake designer who owns the popular Tastries bakery in Bakersfield, California, won what her lawyers at the Thomas More Society called “a First Amendment victory” when Judge Eric Bradshaw of the Superior Court of California in Kern County ruled against California’s Department of Fair Housing and Employment, which had brought the lawsuit against her.
Miller was subject to multiple lawsuits after she referred a lesbian couple to another baker when they requested a cake for their wedding. Because of her Christian belief that marriage is between one man and one woman, Miller declined to design a custom cake for their ceremony, believing it would be tantamount to a tacit affirmation.
Thomas Robb, the National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, and Pastor at the Christian Revival Center, both centrally located in Harrison, Arkansas, spoke from his office saying, “I don’t agree with alot of what the One-World churches of today preach, but here, clearly Ms. Miller was absolutely correct to stand against homosexuality. We both agree on this. Any business should not be told who they have to serve, it’s their business. Here, a woman doesn’t want to be a part of the Satanic Rebellion, and she shouldn’t have been forced to do so, and in this case she wasn’t. I have seen other judgements where business owners were forced to cater to homosexuals, and by catering to these homosexuals, they are being forced to sin. The judges forcing Christians to sin, and Christians that are willing to sin, just to stay in business, are all guilty of the sin of homosexuality. Nothing is worth your eternal soul being condemned to hell, to have a business in this life.”
