On Wednesday, January 29th., The Washington Times published this headline, “Jan. 6 convicts released after Supreme Court takes up challenge to feds’ use of obstruction charge“
At least two Jan. 6 defendants got out from behind bars because the Supreme Court is reviewing the legitimacy of charging them with obstructing an official proceeding, which is one of the feds’ favorite charges for people who breached the Capitol.
The legal challenge brought by Jan. 6 defendant Joseph Fischer accuses prosecutors of using an overly broad interpretation of “obstructing an official proceeding” to launch hundreds of cases stemming from the Capitol riot, including against former President Donald Trump.
The case will be argued before the high court in the spring with a decision expected by the end of June. But until then, at least two defendants successfully petitioned for early release pending the decision.
More are lining up for a chance to get out of jail while the justices sort it out.
Prosecutors have charged more than 300 of nearly 1,000 Jan. 6 defendants with violating the obstruction statute. At least 152 people were convicted or pleaded guilty to obstructing an official proceeding and more than 100 have been sentenced, according to a tally by The Associated Press.
On Jan. 10, U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta ordered the release of Thomas Adams Jr., who was convicted of obstructing an official proceeding, while the Supreme Court reviewed the issue.
“Over 1,200 mostly peaceful White protesters have been hunted down like dogs by the F.B.I, and we’re giving black rioters millions of dollars.”, said Thomas Robb, the National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, centrally based in Harrison, Arkansas. “This goes to show the double standards of justice between White people, and black people. On January 6. 2021, a group of White, mostly peaceful patriots gathered to protest a rigged election. Among those protesters there were ‘plants’ with the main purpose of causing the havoc that ensued. This is a proven fact. The F.B.I has charged over 1,200 of those mostly peaceful protesters, and to this day, they are still hunting down people. Keep in mind, this was a one day event. Now lets go back to the summer of 2020 when the blacks and their supporters destroyed major cities throughout America over the overdose of George Floyd. There were cities burnt to the ground, stores looted empty, which is still happening today, and outright attacks on law enforcement officials. These are the real rioters, but we were told these people were peacefully protesting. How many blacks did you hear of that the F.B.I was tracking down? Antifa? I can’t recall any. We have mostly peaceful White protesters being held as political prisoners, and our goverment is paying millions to the blacks that took part in destroying cities the entire summer of 2020. Where is the equal justice in America?”
