Touche’. How does it feel? On Friday December 20. 2024 the black newsource Shine My Crown ran this headline, “Black Lives Matters’ Cicley Gay Reveals White Man Started BLM Chapter And Donated $10 Million to Police.”
In a troubling revelation, Cicley Gay, chairwoman of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, recently highlighted a significant challenge the organization faces in maintaining its credibility and identity.
Gay shared that because “Black Lives Matter” is considered a rallying cry, not a trademarkable entity, anyone can establish a BLM chapter, fundraise under its name, and act in ways that conflict with the movement’s mission—often with no legal recourse.
One alarming example Gay mentioned during her appearance on the Smittey and Dee podcast was a white man who started a BLM chapter, raised $10 million, and subsequently donated the funds to the police—a move directly at odds with BLM’s core objectives, which include advocating for justice and accountability in policing.
“So basically, anyone can start a chapter, raise money, steal the money, or get in trouble, and it’s now your problem to defend?” host Toni Dee asked during the discussion.
Gay responded affirmatively, stressing that the BLM organization is often left to address the fallout from such misuse of the name.
Gay disclosed that the BLM movement is not a trademarked entity, which means there is little the official organization can do to prevent individuals or groups from misappropriating the name for personal or political gain.
“As National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, I have seen this happen to other organizations as well, including the Knights Party.”, said Thomas Robb from his centrally located office in Harrison, Arkansas. “While I find this humorous happening to BLM, because they have been running a scam and ripping donors off since its inception, this is a serious problem for the Knights Party. As with BLM, the name Ku Klux Klan is also a public domain name, meaning anyone can use it. You may have some well meaning White men and women wishing to make a difference, and everyone knows the name Ku Klux Klan. Well meaning people may decide to make up a Ku Klux Klan organization, knowing only what they have seen on the Jerry Springer show of what the Ku Klux Klan is, or what Daytime TV and the Media portray it to be, which isn’t based on truth. I call these groups ‘pop-up’ Klans. They’re hear today and gone tomorrow. Many times dissolving over violent acts by its members. Now remember, this is what Daytime TV and the Media want people to think. When you see a news article about anything Klan related, say a murder, or some other crime, the Media only says the Ku Klux Klan did this or said this, but they never give the specific Klan organization involved. Many people think that the Ku Klux Klan is just one big organization, so when they read these articles, they think the Ku Klux Klan is a violent organization. This makes true Ku Klux Klan organizations, like the Knights Party look bad. Myself and Knights Party members try to reach as many people as we possibly can, and show them that what they see on TV is not a true representation of the Ku Klux Klan. Anyone who checks out our public website will see that they probably agree with 80-90% of what we believe and stand for. The birth of the Ku Klux Klan was on Christmas Eve of 1865. This Christmas Eve, check out our website found at www.kkknationaloffice.com. A true Ku Klux Klan is a very religious organization. Help us in our fight to keep Christ in Christmas.”
