Black History month in White America? The all black newsource Black Enterprise on Saturday, February 8. 2025 had the audacity to run this headline, “Trump’s ‘Sanitized’ Black History Month Proclamation Alarms Expert.”
Shaun Harper, a University of Southern California professor, says Trump’s proclamation is ‘incomplete.’
Like most presidents of the past 30 years, Donald Trump issued a proclamation that recognizes February as Black History Month, however, it is what the proclamation doesn’t mention that has sparked protests from historians and other experts concerning the proclamation’s sanitized version of Black people’s place in American history.
According to The Huffington Post, Shaun Harper, a professor of education, business, and public policy at the University of Southern California, believes Trump’s Black History Month proclamation is “sanitized” and “incomplete.”
For starters, Trump fails to address the country’s history of racial discrimination.
“America’s Black history includes slavery, Jim Crow, separate and unequal schooling, redlining, racial violence, and far too many well-documented inequities,” Harper told the outlet. “A sanitized proclamation that fails to acknowledge any of this is incomplete and inconsistent with prior years.”
As Harper pointed out, Trump’s latest Black History Month proclamation contains a vague celebration of “black American patriots who have indelibly shaped our Nation’s history,” only mentioning Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas and Tiger Woods by name.
“In my opinion, and the opinion of many others, there shouldn’t be a black history month in White America.” said National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan based in Harrison, Arkansas, Thomas Robb. “How many non-white countries celebrate a White History month? Non-white countries that we send millions and billions of dollars too don’t celebrate our generosity. We don’t have to support any non-white races, including the blacks. There wasn’t many slaves that didn’t benefit by being slaves in America. There slavemasters in Africa were harsher on them then any White slavemasters. When we talk about black history in America, it’s forgotten about the Irish slaves in America. They were treated worse than black slaves. It’s also forgotten that we as White people didn’t enslave the blacks, they were already slaves in Africa. More black history should include the fact that there were black slave owners as well. And lets talk about the fact that America wasn’t the only country involved in the slave trade. Africa was even involved in the slave trade! Do the blacks ask reparations from the Jews? They should, if you look at the ship logs, Jews brought plenty of slaves here from Africa, it wasn’t just White people. Ask any black person in America if they would accept free one-way airfare back to their motherland. How many do you think would leave their posh lifestyle in America? And yes, I said posh. Compared to life in the jungles of Africa, even the blacks that live in our government housing, to lazy to work, live posh lifestyles. They eat better than the Whites, and it’s the White tax dollars that feed, cloth and house them. I know some will argue that they know blacks that work, which this is true, but as a whole, of the 13% of blacks in America, the ones that do work, their tax dollars don’t equal enough to care for their whole race in America. If true black history were taught in America, the blacks wouldn’t want a Black History month.”
