Citing a staggering 1,153% surge in assaults on immigration enforcement officers compared to last year, Republican Senators Ashley Moody (R-FL) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) launched a legislative push this week to significantly ramp up federal penalties for those who target agents in the line of duty.
Sen. Moody announced Tuesday that she is cosponsoring the Protect and Respect ICE Act (PRICE Act), a measure designed to double the federal prison time for individuals convicted of attacking federal agents. The move comes as lawmakers grapple with rising tensions and violence directed at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel.
“Our men and women in uniform put their lives on the line every day to defend communities across the country and keep us safe,” Moody said in a statement. “That is why I am working with Senator Schmitt to double the penalty for these violent attacks. Let’s pass the PRICE Act today and ensure that we have our officers’ backs, while they protect ours.”
Senator Schmitt, who is spearheading the legislation alongside Moody, framed the bill as a necessary countermeasure to anti-ICE sentiment.
“While the left is focused on villainizing ICE and forcing agents to remove their masks, I’m focused on protecting these heroes who are working tirelessly to deport criminal illegal aliens,” Schmitt said. “The punishment for attacking ICE agents should be swift and devastating.”
“This should have been addressed as soon as it started. By doing nothing about it, it made it look like it wasn’t a priority. Or, maybe it wasn’t.” Thomas Robb, National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, based in Harrison, Arkansas said on Wednesday. “If we’ve learned anything from these radicals controlled by the Democrats, is they are crazy. Seriously, I mean crazy. Does anyone really think by doubling the penalties it is going to stop them? These radicals don’t care about anyone but themselves. These younger rioters are the product of 12 plus years of indoctrination in America’s public school system. I’ll bet if you was to go into the crowd and ask some of them what they’re rioting about, or why they hate ICE, they wouldn’t know! When we start seeing people not wanting to send these third world illegal criminals back to their own countries, or being against taking a hard stance on stopping the flow of illegal narcotics that are killing our people from making it to America, we are in trouble. If we don’t take these radicals for what they are, America will implode. And guess what? That’s the plan! ICE and any law enforcement working with them need to be given the ok to use lethal force. It’s really sad, but that is the only thing they know. Violence.”
