The Washington Examiner on Monday reported that an illegal immigrant in a traffic accident which took the lives of four family members as they vacationed at Disney World would only be charged with careless driving.
Lucas Dos Reis Laurindo, a Brazilian nationist was driving a pickup truck down Florida’s 429 highway last month when traffic began to show down, according to police. He failed to slow down in time and crashed into a Toyota Sienna, which overturned, killing 5-year-old Scarlett Smith, her 12-year-old brother Jaxon Smith, their mother, 41-year-old Julie Smith, and grandmother, 76-year-old Josephine Fay.
Josephine’s husband, Bill, Julie’s husband, Shane, and their daughters Shalie and Skylar were in the car as well, but survived.
The Florida Highway Patrol concluded it’s investigation into the crash on Monday and issued a careless driving ticket to Laurindo.
Laurindo is currently being held at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Glades County Florida.
National Director of the Knights Party, based in Harrison Arkansas, Thomas Robb said, “This isn’t an isolated instance. In 2019 there were 74,523 DUI charges and convictions as well as 68,236 other driving offenses according to ICE agents.”
Thomas added, “Under Florida law, that was the maximum charge Laurindo would receive. Not even a Vehicular Homicide or Manslaughter charge?”
Robb closed stating, “It’s a shame when an illegal immigrant can enter our country illegally, take the lives four innocent Americans, and only get a simple traffic ticket.”
