Conservatives are split over whether Google email filters are flagging Republican lawmakers’ emails as spam and thereby unfairly censoring them unfairly.
A recent study found that Google has disproportionately filtered the fundraising emails of Republican lawmakers into hidden spam folders compared to those from Democratic lawmakers, but conservatives disagree over whether the finding is attributable to Google discriminating against Republicans or to recipients’ dislike of the language in emails sent by Republicans.
Republicans are particularly upset about this because a significant amount of political campaign fundraising occurs via email and is critical for rallying base voters and winning elections. Gmail, a free product provided by Google, is the country’s most popular email service.
Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said this past week that the study shows that Google, like other Big Tech companies, has an anti-conservative bias and consistently stifles right-wing speech.
Thomas Robb, National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, centrally based in Harrison, Arkansas, spoke from the Knights Party National Office saying, “Everyday there’s somewhere new where Conservatives are being silenced. Here we have Gmail, probably the biggest email provider in the world, sending Republican lawmakers fundraising emails to spam. This is a diifferent form of censorship in this case, but it is indeed censorship. Most people only think of censorship coming in the form of Facebook or other social media sites banning you for your opinion when it goes against the ‘agenda’ taking place in America, but there is many forms, and many ways to be silenced by the Leftists. I believe Google Gmail is doing this on purpose. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but imagine you’re waiting on an important email, do you check your spam box? This is like your mailman delivering your mail to your neighbors house. Nobody will ever know unless you have an honest neighbor and he gives it to you. In this case, Gmail was routing mail to spam, instead of the inbox. They’re not honest, but someone caught them”.
