Law keepers are under attack! On Tuesday, October 10. 2023, USA Today published this headline, “Cops are on trial in two high-profile cases. Is it easier to prosecute police now?”
Closing arguments are expected to begin Tuesday in the trial of one current and one former Aurora police officer charged in the 2019 death of 23-year-old massage therapist Elijah McClain. The officers have pleaded not guilty to criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter and assault.
In Washington, jurors in the trial of three Tacoma Police Department officers are expected to hear more testimony about the death of 33-year-old Manuel Ellis, who died in 2020 after telling officers he couldn’t breathe multiple times during a struggle that was captured on camera. The officers face second-degree murder or first-degree manslaughter charges and have pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, in Tennessee, five former Memphis police officers charged in the January beating and death of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols are waiting to learn when they will stand trial in state court. The officers have pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and other charges in the case.
Across the United States, the number of police officers charged with violent on-duty crimes, including murder, manslaughter and assault, has increased in recent years in part because of increased public scrutiny, new technology and legal changes that have helped make prosecutions possible. Still, such charges for police officers remain rare and convictions are rarer still, data shows.
“Race has everything to do with crime in America”, said Thomas Robb, the National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, centrally located in Harrison, Arkansas. “Ever since the overdose of George Floyd under the knee of a White police officer, the idea that White police officers in America are ‘hunting down’ black people just to kill them has been running rampant. The facts are this, 56% of crime in America is committed by black criminals. That’s astounding because they’re only 13.6% of America’s population. This statistic along should tell you that when a crime is committed, on average, there’s a 56% chance that a black is involved. When you add in that among blacks, on average, they have an IQ of 70, which is borderline retarded, the odds are stacked against police officers of having a peaceful encounter when a black is involved. This certainly isn’t racist thinking because these are the facts. I’m not sure how long we have been keeping this statistic in America, but since 2017, there have been more White people killed by police officers than black. Why aren’t White people up in arms about this? It’s simple, because we as White people realize that there are consequences to our actions.”
