Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has signed HB 20 into law, prohibiting social media platforms from banning or suspending users and removing or suppressing their content based on political viewpoint.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, signed a law Thursday preventing social media companies from banning users for their political views.
The law, known as HB 20, prohibits social media platforms from banning or suspending users and removing or suppressing their content based on political viewpoint. The bill was introduced by state Sen. Bryan Hughes partly in an effort to combat perceived censorship of conservatives by Facebook, Twitter, Google-owned YouTube, and other major tech companies.
Speaking from the National Office of the Knights Party, based in Harrison, Arkansas, National Director, Thomas Robb said, “This is a big win for Texas. The reason that everything seems to be a doom and gloom rhetoric in today’s times is because everything is one-sided, tilted towards leftist views, which are doom and gloom ideologies. On social media, if you say or post anything positive, that goes against the left’s ‘end of the world’ ideology, you’re banned. Debate is needed in any society to thrive, and move forward. When debate is silenced, and there’s only one view projected, there’s only one winner. In America, right now, it’s not the majority of it’s citizens that are winning because most citizens enjoy their God-given freedoms, so in order for the left to continue removing those freedoms, the majority needs to be silenced, and that’s exactly what Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others are doing. The majority are being silenced.”
