Cheers! Well, not exactly. Recently Newsy.com published this headline, “CDC Data Reveals Alcohol-Related Deaths Increased During Pandemic.”
According to new government data, it’s time for everyone to be more mindful.
“People are consuming alcohol at levels that are really detrimental to their overall mental and physical health,” Horizon Health Services Senior Vice President Brandy Vandermark-Murray said.
The CDC found alcohol-induced deaths jumped 26% between 2019 and 2020, killing more than 49,000 people during the first year of the pandemic.
Alcoholic liver disease was the leading cause of alcohol-induced deaths, followed by mental and behavioral disorders due to use of alcohol.
“A lot of times we think alcohol, because it’s legal or because it’s socially acceptable, is less risky or less dangerous to our body. But it’s really not, it’s a very harmful substance,” ECMC Family Health Center Associate Medical Director Dr. Michael Cummings said.
Thomas Robb, the National Director of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, centrally based in Harrison, Arkansas said, “Personally, I believe this was the plan to begin with. When the Chinese flu first hit America, our economy stopped. Businesses were shut down, and people lost their livelyhoods. But not every business was closed. Our government thought it was a good idea to keep State Liquor stores open, and many barrooms across the country were allowed to stay open as well. Customers couldn’t go in, but their was conveniently curbside pick up. In Pennsylvania, you could call up your local bar, order a mixed drink, and have it handed to you at the curb! Now when everyone was unlawfully confined to their homes, here was easy way to get out. To buy alcohol. People were already distressed over losing their jobs, now you can’t get out to buy groceries, but you can buy alcohol. You can’t tell me our government didn’t realize the consequences this was going to cause.”
