Time for bums to get off the couch! On Wednesday, February 27. 2025, Blaze Media published this headline, “Liberals implode after Republican defends new food stamp work requirements”: ‘Get off the couch, stop eating the Cheetos’.”
A Republican lawmaker’s defense of new restrictions proposed on food stamps outraged many liberal critics on social media who lashed out against the spending cuts.
Republican Rep. Pat Fallon of Texas was speaking on Fox News about a new House bill that would add work requirements for able-bodied, childless males between 18 and 65 years old. Fallon is a member of the Oversight Committee.
“You know what? We have a message for those kind of folks: If you’re able-bodied and you want to milk the taxpayer, those days are over,” said Fallon. “Get off the couch, stop eating the Cheetos, stop buying the medical marijuana and watching television. You’re actually gonna contribute now because the American taxpayer is fed up!”
He went on to point out that the federal debt had grown to the point that the government was paying as much for interest on the debt as we are for defense spending.
“If we don’t change course, we’re gonna lose this great republic of ours!” he added.
Video of his comments were posted to social media where many people on the left expressed their outrage.
“This change, and I’m hopeful that it does happen, is long overdue.” said Thomas Robb from the National Office of the Knights Party of the Ku Klux Klan, in which he is the National Director of, and is based in Harrison, Arkansas. ” If you’re able to work, you should be working. Today, so many people find that it’s easier to just stay home, get high, and eat food that I and every taxpaying American citizen is paying for. Some families have been on welfare for generations. Kids grow up watching Mom an Dad living the life of Riley, and they think that’s how it’s supposed to be. Getting on welfare is a family tradition. Some think our strain on the welfare system is only because of illegals. Yes, they are a strain and need to be sent back to whatever country they’ve come from, but we still have non-whites, and unfortunately Whites included, that are also a strain on our welfare system. These are some of the people you see sitting in bars, drugged out causing problems for others, and the ones smoking cigarette after cigarette on the corner downtown, yet say they can’t afford food? I don’t understand that. If I had a say in this, people on welfare would be drug tested weekly, and if drugs show up on test, automatically lose your welfare. Drunkards would also be tested as well. I know some will say that drinking is legal, and yes, it is, but when there’s money for alcohol, then there should be money for food. I would even go as far as cigarettes being banned to people on welfare. Booze, drugs, and smoking are habits, not necessities, nor are they needs. Myself, and my family shouldn’t have to go without over someone elses habits.”
